Dr. Jonathan Hoffman is a licensed psychologist and Board-Certified expert in Behavioral and Cognitive Psychology. He is the Chief Clinical Officer and Co-Founder of the Neurobehavioral Institute (NBI) and NBI Ranch, where he leads clinical innovation and care. Dr. Hoffman serves on the Scientific and Clinical Advisory Board of the International OCD Foundation (IOCDF) and co-chairs the OCD and Autism Special Interest Group. He is the author of Stuck: Understanding Asperger’s Syndrome and Obsessive-Compulsive Behaviors and has published widely on OCD, anxiety, and autism. Dr. Hoffman is a sought-after speaker and educator on OCD and autism-related topics for both professional and public audiences.

Dr. Katia Moritz is a licensed psychologist and the Co-Founder and Chief Clinical Officer of the Neurobehavioral Institute (NBI), where she specializes in treating severe anxiety, obsessive-compulsive and related disorders, and autism spectrum disorders. She is also the founder of NBI Ranch, a residential supportive living program, and plays a key role in training clinical staff and developing innovative treatment programs. Board-certified in cognitive and behavioral psychology, Dr. Moritz serves on advisory boards for the IOCDF and HAAPE and is a Fellow of the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies. She is also an author of several clinical resources and children’s books on OCD. Dr. Moritz directed the award-winning documentary Undiagnosed – The Future of Medicine, which has received international recognition.

Dr. David Tolin is the Founder and Director of the Anxiety Disorders Center at the Institute of Living, and an Adjunct Professor of Psychiatry at Yale University School of Medicine. He is the Director of Clinical Science at NBI. He is the Past-President of the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies, the Past-President of the Clinical Psychology Division of the American Psychological Association, and a principal investigator for the National Institutes of Health. He received the Awards for Distinguished Contribution to the Science of Psychology, Distinguished Contribution to the Practice of Psychology, and Lifetime Contribution to Psychology from the Connecticut Psychological Association, as well as the Clinical Science Visionary Award from the Society for a Science of Clinical Psychology.

 

Dr. Tolin is the author of over 250 scientific journal articles, as well as several books, including Doing CBT: A Comprehensive Guide to Working with Behaviors, Thoughts, and Emotions, Buried in Treasures: Help for Compulsive Acquiring, Saving, and Hoarding and Face Your Fears: A Proven Plan to Beat Anxiety, Panic, Phobias, and Obsessions.

 

Dr. Tolin has been featured on the reality TV series Hoarders, The OCD Project, and My Shopping Addiction, and has been a recurring guest on The Oprah Winfrey Show.

David Tolin

Chief of Neuropsychology and Diagnostics

Dr. Abramovitch is a licensed clinical neuropsychologist and an Adjunct Associate Professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of Texas at Austin. He is also a research affiliate at the Center for OCD and Related Disorders (CORD) at Massachusetts General Hospital. His prior experience includes serving as a Research Fellow in the Department of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School, teaching at Harvard University, and, most recently, holding a tenured position as an Associate Professor of Clinical Psychology at Texas State University, where he founded and directed the Neuropsychology and Psychopathology Lab.

Dr. Abramovitch has published over 70 peer-reviewed manuscripts and book chapters and serves on several journal editorial boards. He holds several leadership positions including Associate Editor roles for several journals, including the Journal of Obsessive-Compulsive and Related Disorders. Dr. Abramovitch’s primary research interests include the neuropsychology and cognitive neuroscience of obsessive-compulsive and related disorders, and the impact of psychopathology on cognitive functioning. He has also developed and published several self-report measures for adult and pediatric OCD, and for Tourette’s Syndrome. Additionally, he is interested in the transition of OCD from childhood to adulthood and the effectiveness of exposure and response prevention (ExRP) treatment for OCD in real-world private practice settings. In his private practice, Dr. Abramovitch provides empirically supported psychotherapy and specialized neuropsychological assessments.

Jillian Armstrong Motta is a Licensed Behavior Analyst and Associate Director of the Executive Functioning and Behavioral Program at NBI. She has been with the program since its founding and specializes in helping individuals build executive functioning skills through behavior change. Mrs. Armstrong Motta earned her B.A. in Psychology from the University of Miami and her M.A. in Professional Behavior Analysis from Florida Institute of Technology. Her work combines practical strategies with compassion. She plays a key role in supporting patient success through structured interventions and team collaboration.

Dr. Fernanda Arruda is the Director of Clinical Services at NBI and a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) with a Ph.D. in Experimental Psychology and a specialization in Neuropsychology. Originally licensed in Brazil, she brings extensive international experience in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and neuropsychological assessment for individuals with anxiety, mood, and neurological conditions. After relocating to the U.S., she completed her doctoral training at Florida Atlantic University and joined NBI in 2022. Dr. Arruda is especially passionate about enhancing clients’ executive functioning and social skills to promote independence and quality of life. In her leadership role, she ensures individualized, practice-based care that extends beyond the clinical setting.

Yaneth Beltran, RD, LDN, CEDS-C, is a Registered Dietitian with over 20 years of experience and expertise in nutrition-related factors impacting overall health. She practiced at an Eating Disorder Center for ten years and joined the Neurobehavioral Institute in 2017 as a Nutritionist. Ms. Beltran holds a Certified Eating Disorder Specialist designation from the International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals (iaedp) and has been an active member of the iaedp South Florida Chapter since 2018, serving in roles including Secretary, Treasurer, and, for the past two years, Sponsorship Chair. Beyond providing individualized nutritional counseling, Ms. Beltran provides group facilitation for meal planning workshops, cooking groups, and supermarket tours. These practical, engaging programs foster mindful nourishment and empower participants to make informed nutritional choices. Recently, Ms. Beltran assisted in the development of an Eating Disorder Master’s program at a college in Spain.

Dr. Maria Chiriboga is a bilingual licensed psychologist at NBI who treats OCD, anxiety, and depressive disorders in children, adolescents, and adults. She completed her doctorate in School/Clinical Psychology at PACE University and her internship in a residential adolescent program. Dr. Chiriboga uses CBT and ACT-based techniques to help clients build resilience and pursue values-based goals. Fluent in English and Spanish, she is committed to community-based mental health support. Her therapeutic style emphasizes reflection, skill-building, and personal growth.

Victoria Cooney is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor at NBI who treats OCD, anxiety, and co-occurring conditions. She is actively involved in parent training and family retreats, helping caregivers support loved ones through their mental health journey. Victoria uses CBT and ACT-based approaches to guide clients through meaningful change. She emphasizes psychoeducation and practical strategies in treatment. Her work promotes positive family dynamics and greater treatment success.

Dr. Violante is a Postdoctoral Resident at NBI who specializes in anxiety-related disorders, including obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). She earned her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Nova Southeastern University, where she completed a 12-month rotation at the Anxiety Treatment Center and her clinical internship at Broward Health Medical Center. Dr. Violante integrates evidence-based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) to help clients manage anxiety, intrusive thoughts, and related challenges. She is passionate about working with adults in both individual and group therapy and is fluent in Portuguese, Spanish, and English, providing therapy in all three languages. Grounded in a collaborative and integrative style, Dr. Violante is dedicated to helping clients build resilience and achieve lasting well-being through personalized, evidence-based care.

Dr. Denise Hardt is a Board-Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) and Certified Mental Health Professional (CMHP) at NBI. Originally from Brazil, she is also a licensed psychologist there and has over 35 years of experience in Behavioral Therapy. Dr. Hardt taught university-level courses for more than two decades and led academic programs in psychology. At NBI, she helps clients understand the function of their behaviors and develop adaptive skills for success. She brings deep clinical expertise to her work with patients.

Dr. Nisha Kajani is a Postdoctoral Resident at NBI with training in Clinical Psychology, Neuropsychology, and anxiety-related treatment. She completed her Psy.D. at Nova Southeastern University, where she also earned Master’s degrees in General and Clinical Psychology. Dr. Kajani has provided care across diverse medical and mental health settings, using evidence-based interventions such as CBT and Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP). Fluent in English, Urdu, and Hindi, she offers culturally sensitive and individualized care to a broad patient population. Her clinical interests include anxiety, OCD, trauma, and neurological disorders.

Dr. Andrea Lacayo is a Postdoctoral Resident at NBI who specializes in anxiety-related disorders, including OCD, generalized anxiety, and trauma-related conditions. She earned her doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Nova Southeastern University and completed her internship at Florida State University’s Counseling and Psychological Services Center. Dr. Lacayo’s approach is grounded in evidence-based treatments like CBT, while also incorporating ACT, DBT, and Emotion-Focused Therapy to meet individual client needs. She has experience supporting a diverse range of issues such as depression, adjustment difficulties, and stress-related disorders. Dr. Lacayo is passionate about helping clients build resilience and improve well-being through integrative and personalized care.

Dr. Ciana Mickolus is a licensed psychologist practicing in Florida and New York and has authority to Practice Interjurisdictional Telepsychology (APIT), granted by the PSYPACT Commission. At NBI, she specializes in treating obsessive compulsive disorders and related conditions, anxiety disorders, depressive disorders, and eating disorders/disordered eating. Dr. Mickolus uses CBT and received formal training in SPACE and the Comprehensive Behavioral Model for the treatment of body-focused repetitive behaviors. Her clinical approach is evidence-based, and highly individualized. In addition to treatment, she also provides training, individual supervision, and group supervision. She is a Qualified Supervisor and oversees the postdoctoral training program at NBI.

Dr. Stephanie Munio is a licensed psychologist practicing in Florida and has the authority to practice Interjurisdictional Telepsychology (APIT), granted by the PSYPACT Commission. Dr. Munio earned her doctorate in Clinical Psychology from La Salle University. She completed her post-doctoral residency at NBI. Dr. Munio treats patients with anxiety disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder, autism, and body and eating concerns. She also leads the group supervision for postdoctoral residents and NBI Ranch residential counselors.

Dr. Wilfredo Rivera-Pérez is the Clinical Director at NBI Coral Gables and a bilingual licensed psychologist with expertise in OCD, anxiety, Tourette’s Syndrome, and impulse-control challenges. Originally from Puerto Rico, he brings a culturally attuned approach to therapy. Dr. Rivera uses CBT strategies and supports both individual therapy and family consultation. In addition to his clinical work, he supervises NBI staff and leads a free OCD support group. He has received specialized training from the International OCD Foundation and in DBT techniques.

Heather Silversmith, RD, LD/N is an experienced licensed dietitian who has specialized in the complexities of disordered eating, especially regarding anxiety and OCD-related disorders and addictions, for over 25 years. She integrates nutritional science with an empathic, personalized approach to recovery. Ms. Silversmith collaborates closely with therapists and medical professionals.

Dr. Jennifer Staller is a clinical psychologist licensed in Florida and she holds the Authority to Practice Interjurisdictional Telepsychology (APIT) in her home State of Florida from the PSYPACT Commission. Throughout her career, she has worked with parents and families in numerous settings. At the Neurobehavioral Institute (NBI) Dr. Staller provides individual, parenting, group, and family therapy to individuals and their families. She coordinates the parenting intensive training program and customizes the curriculum for each parent participating. She has worked with NBI directors to write NBI’s parenting manual, and establish the curriculum for the parenting group. Dr. Staller presented at IOCDF on parenting-related topics.

Dr. Christopher Varghese is a postdoctoral resident at NBI with clinical expertise in OCD, depression, trauma, and anxiety, especially among culturally diverse populations. He earned his Psy.D. from Nova Southeastern University and completed his internship at the University of Memphis. Dr. Varghese integrates CBT with ACT and DBT elements, emphasizing the translation of research into practical therapeutic strategies. He supports individual and group therapy services at NBI and contributes to the residential program. His clinical focus includes helping patients align their values with their daily functioning and goals.

Laura Hecker, M.S., RMHCI, is a Registered Mental Health Counseling Intern and Community Engagement Program (CEP) Coordinator at the Neurobehavioral Institute. She earned her Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Nova Southeastern University. At NBI, Laura provides individual and group therapy to patients with anxiety disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder, autism spectrum disorder, and related conditions. Laura is passionate about helping individuals generalize therapeutic skills into their daily lives while fostering independence, resilience, and meaningful growth.

She earned her B.S. in Psychology and M.S. in Applied Behavior Analysis from Northeastern University and has been a Board Certified Behavior Analyst and Licensed Applied Behavior Analyst since 2020. Alexis is passionate about helping individuals grow their independence, build meaningful social connections, and strengthen everyday life skills. She enjoys working closely with families and educators, believing that collaboration and practical strategies are the foundation for lasting progress.

Dr. Ruiz earned her PsyD in Clinical Psychology from Nova Southeastern University (NSU) and completed her postdoctoral training at Yale University’s School of Medicine. Currently an Associate Professor at NSU, she serves as Director of the Healthy Lifestyles Guided-Self Change (HLGSC) Clinic, where she specializes in evidence-based treatments for substance use and behavioral concerns. A founding member of the Addiction Psychology specialty board (ABPP), Dr. Ruiz is also a recognized expert in Motivational Interviewing, providing clinical supervision and consulting for major institutions like Yale and the Connecticut Mental Health Center.

Dr. Marshall is a distinguished licensed psychologist and Clinical Director with over 20 years of experience in pediatric neurodevelopment. Founder of the PEDAL program at St. Charles Health Systems, she specializes in complex conditions such as ASD, ADHD, and TBI. She earned her Ph.D. from the University of Utah and was mentored by the renowned Dr. Sally Ozonoff at the UC Davis MIND Institute. An expert in autism evaluation and forensic advocacy, Dr. Marshall has led statewide committees to improve diagnostic standards and currently serves as the U.S. National Eligibility Officer for Athletes Without Limits.
